IT & TECHNOLOGY RECRUITMENT · SOUTH AFRICA

Connect business needs with the right analytical talent.

Recruit business analysts who can understand your processes, work with stakeholders and turn requirements into clear decisions.

UNDERSTAND THE APPOINTMENT

Start with the problem the analyst needs to understand.

Business analyst recruitment works best when the brief explains the problem space. Identify the process, application or service under review and who relies on it. Describe whether the analyst will explore an unclear need, define requirements for an agreed solution or improve an existing operation. These stages require different balances of discovery, documentation and delivery involvement.

Make the expected outputs useful and specific. A process map, requirements set or acceptance criteria should support a decision rather than exist as an end in itself. Explain who will use the analyst’s work and how it connects to business owners, developers, testers or suppliers. If industry knowledge is essential, identify the decisions it will support instead of using sector experience as a substitute for analytical ability.

Which profile does your team need?

The job title should reflect the responsibilities, seniority and contribution you expect. These are some of the appointments we can discuss within this area.

  • Business analysts
  • Systems business analysts
  • Process analysts
  • Business application analysts
  • Senior business analysts
  • Requirements analysts

Three decisions that sharpen the brief.

Clarify the analysis stage

Distinguish early discovery from detailed requirements, implementation support and operational improvement. Explain what is already decided and what remains open. This helps candidates understand how much investigation and influence the appointment involves.

Identify the decision-makers

Name the business owners and delivery roles the analyst will work with. Explain how priorities and conflicting requirements are resolved. Stakeholder access and decision ownership affect what the analyst can realistically achieve.

Connect outputs to delivery

Describe the documents, workshops or models required and how others will use them. Include testing or acceptance responsibilities where relevant. Assess candidates on whether their work supports decisions and implementation, not simply the number of documents produced.

A MORE RELEVANT SHORTLIST

What matters in the search.

Analysis in context

Discuss how the person gathered information, tested assumptions and understood the business problem.

Useful requirements

Explore process maps, requirements, acceptance criteria and the way outputs supported delivery.

Stakeholder communication

Consider how the analyst handles conflicting priorities and explains detail to different audiences.

MAKE THE CONVERSATION COUNT

Assess how candidates turn uncertainty into clarity.

Offer a short description of a business issue with some details intentionally missing. Ask what the candidate would investigate, who they would speak to and how they would test an assumption. Look for questions about outcomes, constraints and the people affected before they move straight to a solution.

Explore an example where stakeholders disagreed or requirements changed. Ask how the candidate made the disagreement visible, recorded decisions and kept the work usable for the delivery team. A sample document can support the conversation when it is theirs to share, but the reasoning behind it matters more than elaborate formatting or a long list of analysis tools.

Tell us about your role

Your hiring questions, answered.

Can you recruit an analyst with industry experience?

Include the relevant domain and explain where it is essential. We can discuss the balance of industry knowledge and transferable analytical capability.

What is the difference between a business and systems analyst brief?

A systems-focused role may need deeper application and integration knowledge. We help you describe the actual responsibilities rather than relying only on the title.

Can this be a project-based appointment?

Yes. Contract and permanent options can be discussed around scope, duration and your longer-term needs.

How much technical knowledge should a business analyst need?

Match the requirement to the work. An analyst discussing integrations or application behaviour may need deeper systems understanding than one focused on an operational process. Explain where technical decisions sit and what support is available, then assess the level of understanding the analyst needs to work effectively with that team.

Can a workshop exercise help us assess candidates?

A short, fictional exercise can show how a candidate asks questions, structures information and responds to conflicting needs. Give consistent instructions and make clear what you are assessing. Keep the scenario proportionate and avoid using it to obtain unpaid analysis of a live business problem.
